Two videogame strips in a row! Not only that, but two comics in which the first two panels are taken up by someone perusing a computer screen. We’re on a roll. Two rolls.
The malware that was on Twitch didn’t just steal people’s Steam account information. It actually made purchases all by itself, without the need to report back to a human hacker (or ‘Malware Master’, which is a much better title and the one I’ve been using to refer to them in this specific instance). This is some Spielberg-and-Kubrick level petty theft.
According to Twitch, though, only two people actually fell victim to it. I know, right? Out of a whole internet full of Counter-Strike fans being specifically targeted. I’m surprised too.
There’s a new controller coming out for the Xbox One, specifically for use with Mortal Kombat X. And it looks like some idiot on Geocities designed it in 1998. It’s large, bulky, lopsided, missing half the actual controls and looks generally unwieldy. It’s like they unlearned their lesson.
I understand that it’s meant to be like an arcade stick, but, y’know, that’s why we have arcade sticks. The problem with regular controllers for arcade fighting games isn’t that they don’t have big flat buttons; it’s that analogue sticks and thumbs are ill-suited to the kinds of manoeuvres you need joysticks and wrists for. I suppose you could balance the controller on your knee and grip the analogue stick awkwardly in your meaty left paw, but again… arcade sticks, y’know, exist. Or they could just be trying to cater to the three-armed gaming community; they wouldn’t be the first.
Who knows: maybe it’ll be an amazing piece of technology and I’ll be proven wrong. I suck at fighting games anyway.
To be fair, there’s a nigh-identical version coming out for the PS4, but we couldn’t well have both company heads in panel 3. We got them in the alt text instead.
Andrew has done a lot of work on Zunfa.net over the years. Like, a lot a lot. He built all of the templates and layouts for Zunfa Comics as well as Ephemeris, and also painstakingly taught me to use the uploader thing I’m using right now. He argued a bunch of visual design stuff against my ideas that I wanted him to make, and he was right. Basically, if it looks crap or ugly, it’s probably something I insisted on.
He also did a gigantic amount of work trying to set up the multisite, back when we were trying to make Zunfa.net a central hub for multiple contributors. I don’t think that idea ever officially ended – I know we haven’t updated the About page recently – and the vestiges of it can be seen in various places all over the site. It never really worked properly, but hot damn did he put in a lot of energy fixing it whenever it broke.
He also does a lot of animation, and it’s pretty damn amazing. I’m completely unqualified to talk about it, but it looks like something that walked out of a Dreamworks film to me.
Anyway here he is pooping out Walt Disney, in possibly my favourite panel I’ve ever drawn.
As a sidenote, the art in panel one is basically the look I’ve always imagined for Zunfa Comics. Now watch as I never quite replicate that style of linework again because I said that.
